Anyone hyped for X Wing 2.0 (the tabletop game)
In advance of (I hope) ~gaming.tabletop.StarWars.Xwing :) Any other X wing players here. I was falling out of love with it, but the relaunch for second edition really gets me excited to play again, which is great as i have maaaanay tiny plastic spaceships to push about.
If you don't know, info here https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/x-wing-second-edition/ and it is a pretty fast and dynamic tabletop space fighter skirmish games. Plays in 75 mins (you stop after that) and very much streamlined versus other tabletop miniature games.
I've looked at getting into the X-Wing game, but the cost was just too much for me to get past. Is the relaunch just going to be increasing supply? Or are they making significant rules changes?
Relaunch keeps all the old plastic ships, replaces everything else (bar dice). Its a rule reset, fixing a number of issues based on early decisions before they worked out how big it would get.
It is a good time to buy in as people are selling off their ships really cheaply, but they will be usable with 2.0 with the purchase of a conversion pack, which is about £35/faction. So you could likely buy in at a decent level for 100-150 quid, and have really a lot of options.
I'll have to take a look. I've stepped back from Magic and I'm not sure if I'm ready to get back into a collectible game, but this one has had me interested for a while.
Balancing is also going to be run through an app. So point costs can be dynamic depending on how prevalent a meta is, which I'm really digging. Also, like MindsRedMill said, everything you buy is predetermined. So it's not like opening random boosters and hoping you get something good. That's the difference between TCG and CCG (trading card game, collectible card game, respectively), as I've been told.
Competitively it used to be between $100-200 to get a full flavor of the month squad (high price only due to them piecing out required upgrades across multiple ships). Supposedly magic runs about $500-600 for top-end competitive deck.
Granted that's a 1-time buy-in, counting purchase of a starter set too I believe.
Now that you don't need to buy multiple ships across factions, I can see it being cheaper. And dynamic point pricing due to app usage will make old things good again, instead of needing a reprint!
At least this one isn't buy boosters and hope they have good stuff. Plus for 2.0 all factions will get all faction neutral upgrades, so you won't have to buy ships you wont use just for cards.
Yes! I'm waiting for 2.0. Loved when I first got into X-Wing, then hated how list-dependent builds became. The addition of bullseye arc will change a lot, and promote good flying, although I can still see meta-upgrades not revolving around that arc, unless you're in a large ship, since reliability > high possible damage.
Been playing Legion in the meantime, which has been scratching the tabletop wargaming itch, which I'll probably stick with as well. Missed having a hobby game.
Been playing legion too. Its great.
I agree on the bullseye as a trigger for stuff like Predator and Corran. I also think ti then makes generics quite powerful as you can take them without the upgrades and their relative power will be higher because it will be harder to pull off the benefits of the upgrades.
I dunno, we'll have to see the point pricing. If they're too expensive, bursting one down before they shoot could screw the player bad. You still fall prey to being out maneuvered (speaking of which, outmaneuver EPT looks great now!) There's definitely a lot more moving parts to consider now. Charges for force, and torpedoes, etc.
Depending on how effective these are, that may determine how much generics show up.
The moving of Push the Limit from upgrade to action bar is going to be very interesting as well, since that'll help generics get more value without paying extra. Regardless I can still see EPTs being good provided they don't require a bullseye arc. I think only large ships will see those EPTs due to a large arc, in competitive play. Too unreliable otherwise.
