Xbox & Bethesda games showcase was yesterday and there were some pretty exciting announcements.
The games are listed neatly in the link but my favorites are:
Hollow Knight: Silksong: Hollow Knight was pretty great and I love platformers so I'm looking forward to this.
Microsoft Flight Simulator: They're adding gliders and helicopters! Helicopters were always tricky for me back in FSX days but I cannot wait to take off with gliders.
Minecraft Legends: I really liked Minecraft Dungeons and this seems to follow that idea. However, the details are scarce right now, so I'll have to wait and see.
As Dusk Falls: I usually prefer games that I can hop in and out without worrying about their story, so on paper I should not be excited about this game at all, but its trailer looked pretty good. Hopefully it has a gripping story.
Diablo IV: Diablo III is currently my go-to game and I'm having a lot of fun. Hopefully its next iteration is just as fun. It certainly looks darker and perhaps a bit more mature, which I like, but considering the direction Blizzard's heading in, this is pretty much a wait-and-see game for me. I hope Microsoft can tame their P2W ambitions once the acquisition is completed.
Ravenlok: Looks pretty fun. RPS compared it to Kingdom Hearts, which is a game I did not play, but it reminded me a bit of Ori and Psychonauts. The game style looks a lot more like Psychonauts but its atmosphere reminded me of Ori. I like both of those games so hopefully I'll like this one too.
Cocoon: The game I'm most excited about! It's from the lead gameplay designer of LIMBO and INSIDE, both of which I love, so I cannot wait to play Cocoon. The trailer looked great.
Starfield: Despite all the hype, I can't say I found this to be gripping. The game is ambitious, so I'll certainly try it but it looks so vast and detailed that it seems as though I'll be missing out on a lot of the experience unless I spend a huge chunk of my time playing it. I'm a casual player at best so I hope players like me can find some value in it.
I'm somewhat interested in Starfield. I wouldn't mind another really good fantasy world I can sink 100s of hours into. I have high expectations and modest hope on the "1000s of planets you can...
I'm somewhat interested in Starfield. I wouldn't mind another really good fantasy world I can sink 100s of hours into. I have high expectations and modest hope on the "1000s of planets you can explore" thing. I think something like that should be doable with the budget Beth is working with, but I don't think they'll commit to it hard enough. Honestly, after the footage I'm split between "this is just FO4 or TESV in space" and "maybe a blank slate IP-wise is what they need to get a good properly open world out there once again." - have to wait and see I suppose.
