I played a ton of WoW back in the day. As much or more than anyone... And I never went on a single guild raid. Not one, in all my years playing it. I just did 5-man pickup groups all the time and it was so much fun. I loved to just solo out in Hinterlands and get lost in the grind. The other stuff just didn't seem as fun.

Raids just didn't seem fun at all; spent X hours on a run that felt like a job for the possibility you might get something good. No thanks.

For me, it's that MMOs offer a game that gets updated frequently, often with crafting and other side hobbies, and to do so with one or two people I know and trust. The ability to get into groups with random people is, frankly, so low on the list of features as to not be worth mentioning.
