Anyone else lost interest in Summoning Salt’s videos? I think the length (IMO an indicator of difficulty he’s got editing things down) and the repetitious formula are losing me. Granted, there are good growth indicators. It’s great to see he’s getting big ad sponsors now, he works hard enough for it. But I do not think the channel will do as well as it could if he doesn’t bring some variety to it.

I think there's not enough variability within the format, and also only so many games with thriving speedrunning communities. "Player A held the title, then Player B got it. A new strat or glitch came out that overturned all previous records, and the same couple of people duked it out for a few months, until a new equilibrium was found. Finally, having hit a narratively satisfying time, the world record holder decided that they'd do something that wasn't throwing themselves against this wall hoping for the 1/50 chance to get the McGuffin 3 frames faster. The End."

What more can you do with that format?

He could move into speedrunning news in a format similar to what cr1tikal does for Twitch drama.

He could do documentaries on retro game development. Perhaps a 30 minute video on Prince of Persia which has a good autobiographical reference in the creator’s journal.

There are a lot of ways he could branch out. He’s developed the skills to do more than just speedrun documentaries.

If that's what you're looking for, then you would probably be interested in Retro Game Mechnics Explained. I have posted a few of their videos to Tildes before, but it's really technical stuff,...

If that's what you're looking for, then you would probably be interested in Retro Game Mechnics Explained. I have posted a few of their videos to Tildes before, but it's really technical stuff, and not many people seemed interest in it.

I don't think SummoningSalt would be able to do those sorts of videos though since it requires quite a bit of technical knowhow, and they're not a hardware hacker and programmer like RGME.
