The trailer implies some -- (Edit: How do we spoiler tag on here??) -- oh here we go:

more dream sequence/parallel timeline shenanigans
so they may just do the classic "early-game event robs main character of most abilities" thing like most sequels, though that's a bit of a cop-out, IMO.
Given how much of everyone's abilities in FF7 are tied up in Materia, equipment, and items, "robbing" can be significantly more literal. Shakes fist at Yuffie. Much less of a cop-out and much more...

I don't think so. In the original FF7 this is just the same part of the same game - they'd have to add something in to "steal" your gear, and I don't think they'd want to do that. In the original,...

I expect that if you have a save file on the console (or PC) from prior game, your equipment will transfer over. If you do not, they'll give you equipment that's around the average. And in either case, it's not going to matter that much since the new gear you're picking up will quickly be better anyway. You'll keep the weapons you have, you'll start with the "defaults" (e.g buster sword) if you're starting fresh, and there'll be a shop somewhere where you can buy the weapons from the last game.
Major spoilers ahead… don’t read unless you don’t care. They did just traverse to an alternate universe, I have a feeling they’ll just Rick and Morty it, where the laws on one universe do not...

They did just traverse to an alternate universe, I have a feeling they’ll just Rick and Morty it, where the laws on one universe do not fully apply to another. As an example, original timeline is in tact. For the remake timeline, (call it Remake A) we just killed the whispers of RA universe and traversed to another (if I recall this correctly) to stop Sephiroth of the RA timeline. Now the team is in Remake Universe B, where Zack is alive (I think, not exactly clear) and whispers may be alive, too. So that’s where the stripping of levels maybe happen, whispers of RB interject somehow. From the trailer it seems, or may seem the team is highly injured or possibly dead. So Team A may “take over” for Team B.
Agreed! Rebirth is supposed to be on 2 discs! If fully used thats 200gb of game. Most of all that data is graphics and sound but its still alot. I loved the ReMake but for someone that has played...

I loved the ReMake but for someone that has played the original it felt short. Its hard to explain because the game is by no means short. I guess that my brain knowing that after Midgar theres more was left hanging. I guess my brain knows that remake was incomplete so it wanted more.
Im gonna take a guess Rebirth ends at the north crater after a key item is presented to a key player. Also that the next game is going to be Revelations.
