Satisfactory Update 8 is launching tomorrow (13th of June) at 5pm CEST/3pm GMT
Make sure to back up your save files if you're on the experimental branch!
Edit: The path to the save file in Linux isn't correct:
/home/[LocalUserName]/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/526870/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/76561198144444658 [#this number might be different.]
Should see the save file with the title of your save there, just copy it to somewhere else.
This is where I found it on Ubuntu 20.04, with proton.
Looks like the wiki has a decent list of everything promised in Update 8.
Key points:
Functionally a creative mode, with settings for free buildings, flight, immunity to damage, no power needed, etc.
The ability to set your starting tier if you want to test things later in the game.
Complete removal of all spiders and spider adjacent things like cats from the game.
The option to retain inventory on death.
Nothing huge in terms of progression towards the end game, and that's a bummer, but lots of QOL improvements.
The updates to the power switch are a big deal.
I definitely don't want to dismiss some improvements to power infrastructure, but given how they were talking ages ago about changing development patterns to have more distinct progress towards completion I was hoping we'd see some indications towards the end-game.
Update 8 is primarily about the engine change, it isn't the right time to go adding a new bunch of stuff to complicate fault finding.
I’ll have to read over the patch notes! Been a minute since I’ve dated my urge to string together endless conveyor belts.
It is experimental branch update 8, the title is misleading.
