ESA is very similar to GDQ and does two large week-long charity speedrunning marathons each year. Unlike GDQ, they pull a MUCH smaller viewership and, IMO, deserve way more attention than they get.
If you like the idea of GDQ but don't love the crowds, high energy, or heavy-handed incentive-driven donation begging, then ESA is for you. It's a much more chill, cozy stream -- more reminiscent of "early GDQ" for those that were around for that.

Question: does anyone know why ESA’s donation system is in dollars?
The event is in Sweden; it’s aimed at a primarily European audience; and it supports a Swedish charity. It seems like they should be using euros or kronor instead, but they consistently process and track donations in USD specifically. My husband and I talk about this every time they do a marathon, but it’s worth noting that we might be missing something obvious because we’re ignorant Americans.
Anyone know why dollars are the currency of choice for the event?
I believe it's because ESA's donation tracker is actually the same one that GDQ uses (it's open-source, woohoo) and I assume it was built to use USD. And maybe it isn't that straightforward to...

No. But if I had to hazard a guess, they may have gone with the currency that due to charity and viewer (legal/payment) locations minimizes expenses with exchange fees overall? Even if the event...

Even if the event is mainly european it's possible a lot of the viewers on Twitch are american, because a lot of people on Twitch are american just generally speaking.

That’s a very plausible explanation. Good eye, Bauke!
