Figured people who might not otherwise know might be interested. The same project that brought an excellent Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time port to computer platforms have released 2SHip2Harkanian, the sequel, for Majora's Mask.
Work on this started with the original decompilation of Majora's Mask, I believe 4 years ago, and they have just released this today after however much time it took them to develop.
EDIT: Similarly to Ship of Harkanian, you'll need a specific, legally obtained ROM with a specific hash. The one I was able to get from some reasearch about decompilation is a rom with a CRC of
b428d8a7
note I haven't run this yet, as it has a bug on Fedora 40, which I'm using right now. I just got it running in WINE with no issues, sidestepping the bug.
Of course I see this after finishing playing a complete game of Zelda 64 Recompiled.
I must say that there has never been a better time to play Majora’s Mask. If it plays anywhere near as well as the version I played, then they are both worthy of being called the definitive versions of the game. The quality of life improvements and subtle improvements to visual fidelity make them much more enjoyable than the 3DS remake, personally speaking.
2S2H is partially based on Recompiled for some parts IIRC, so it would probably offer the same, if not a slightly streamlined configuration process. I'm holding out for HD textures for this, since they already exist and just need repackaging.
