The Tsukihime (first half) remake was released on Switch, in English, a couple days ago! I'm stoked to check it out at some point. Wish it were on PC, as I don't do much Switch gaming other than Ring Fit occasionally. Anyone here interested or picked it up already?
For those who don't know, Tsukihime is a very popular classic visual novel among anime VN lovers. Same people who made Fate stay night. It's about vampires and magic in Japan. By today's standards the originals have a lot of very edgy—and maybe problematic—content, if viewed through the mainstream lens. Type-Moon's modern remakes and adaptations often tone down or remove a lot of the controversial stuff and give their works a wider mainstream appeal.

I played a good chunk of Witch on the Holy Night via the Switch last year, but (assuming the library was an accurate measure of length) I dropped it around the halfway mark and found it to be kinda lacking compared to FSN and the og Tsukihime. There's something about the latter two where it feels like Shirou and Shiki are both on a razor's edge, with every fight feeling like it's theirs to lose and the choices providing engagement to that end... WotHK had some stuff going for it, but without the sense of danger or the high concept of FSN / the horror elements of the original Tsukihime it just didn't feel engaging to me.
That was also written about nine years before this, though. (Plus or minus years of development hell.) For anyone that picks the remake up, how is it? I'm on the fence. I do, uh, have some back dues what with FSN and Tsukihime never coming out here...

I agree Witch on the Holy Night starts out slower. I liked it a lot though! The writing focuses a lot on worldbuilding and the intricacies of magecraft and the preparation required for spellcasting. And quite a bit of slice of life too.
If you stopped at the part I think, I understand what you mean in terms of lower stakes compared to other Type-Moon VNs. WotHN does take on a higher-intensity and higher-stakes direction later on, so IMO it's worth it to power through the middle parts. Although I did enjoy the worldbuilding as well.
Overall though I do understand the criticism; it is, overall, noticeably less edgy and less often fills the reader with dread. So maybe didn't meet the exact expectations set by other Type-Moon VNs.
