For anyone unfamiliar, Mandalore Gaming does a good video reviewing Pathologic 2, and gives an overview of the series..

I recall the developers describing the game as a "stress simulator", which I think is valid. There is nothing ground breaking about any of the games mechanics separately on their own, you honestly do a lot of walking and reading. But combined with the in game timer, interconnected quest systems, and a world oozing with character/atmosphere, Pathologic 2 is one of my favorite games ever, and I would never would recommend to anyone. It unfortunately didn't have a lot of mainstream appeal and did not do well financially, so I was very surprised to see we were going to get the other character paths.

Some notes from the article that I found interesting:

... this time the follow-up will feature "a time-travel mechanic, allowing players to go back and see how their decisions change the lives of the townspeople."

"Fight the epidemic by implementing quarantines and deploying patrols to lock down the spread of disease," say the game's creators.

Do you have any spoiler free tips for a new player to get through the first couple of runs and get my teeth into it? Any "wish I knew that before I started" tips?

Yeah, I think I restarted Pathologic 2 three times, each after about 2-3 hours of playing, before it clicked with me.

At one point, I found a discussion on reddit pretty much saying that you 100% can not, and will not, do everything, save everyone, and understand everything. It's weird but I have a hard time letting characters die in games, so understanding that it would be unavoidable to have a bunch of dead NPC's on my hands helped a lot.

I haven't messed with them, but the developers did also add difficulty sliders, which are an option. Some people like to gatekeep about this, since its not the "intended" experience, but that's lame and the game is stressful even without having to worry about food/water/sleep/whatever.

I haven't gone back to do this myself, but I would even consider doing a "selfish" run where you do the bare minimum to help the town and just focus on your own needs.

Interesting yeah. I do struggle myself with not trying to do and see everything. I'm the kind of gamer who combs a new area looking for all the secrets and speaking to all the NPCs before choosing what to do. Pathologic has the timer on and you've got a lot to do, so it goes against my natural instincts. Which is probably a good thing, but its got me wondering what I missed.
Maybe that's OK, I should embrace it and go for it. Its nice to know it didn't stick with you first time either.
          Thanks for replying!

This game sounds awful for a person like myself even if the premise is clearly something refreshing.

Oh well. I hope they do well with the third game, it's clear there's an audience that loves it.

Ha, its funny you say that, I'm on the exact same boat! I never got into stardew and the timer was a large factor. Though, not the only factor, I did try to mod it out and I still didn't enjoy it,...

It sounds easy when someone says to "don't worry about missing things" but I just can't. I know I'll probably never play a game twice so I need to make the first run count.

Ooh I'm super excited for this! I remember hearing the devs talk about how they were exploring something with time for the Bachelor in the past, and their games so far have not disappointed.
