I'm a big fan of the anime, but still haven't played the VN, so I took this as a sign and preordered a physical copy. Sounds like it's an evolution of the Elite version, possibly with new content.
The anime was an abnormally good adaptation of the VN, but I’d still say the VN is the better piece of media. That being said I don’t think that remakes are ever really better than the original...

That being said I don’t think that remakes are ever really better than the original when it comes to VNs. Sure, they may bring some quality of life improvements, but Stein’s;Gate was already pretty modern to begin with and there haven’t been much improvements to the genre mechanically for quite some time. Mages also made a Yu-No remake and while I don’t think it’s a bad version of the game, I don’t think the minor improvements actually made it better, and there are good arguments that it is slightly worse for some of the narrative changes it makes.

I only watched Steins;gate and read an LP of some of the other routes, so you'd have to direct me on how much of a problem this actually is... They mention improved pacing, which I find is often a huge, huge barrier to some people recommending older visual novels. S;G is like 15 years old and I wouldn't be surprised if there's some consensus on what could flow better? Granted that's about how old the Windows release of YU-NO was when I played it, and I think some of the friction of the save system there gives the game its character. Based on what I saw of the d-mail system I imagine it's the same...
(An aside, re remakes - Tsui no Sora or Tsukihime?)
