It seems to me that if you don't want a closed ecosystem, you shouldn't pay for one. Granted, I fully support people trying to break open hardware they purchased. It just seems a bit counter...

It would be nice if the homebrew community figured out a good way to get cloud backups of game saves, which might finally force Nintendo's hand. There's really no reason this shouldn't be a native...

AFAIK there's already a homebrew app to make save backups; presumably, making that "cloud-enabled" would mostly be a matter of someone running the cloud bit.

Yeah, I'm guessing that he/she meant without paying. Just like Xbox, PS4, and PC.
Seems shitty to force you to pay for a subscription to get backups, but it's a step in the right direction.
