What would you like to see in a new Command and Conquer game?

With Rivals being announced, and the backslash against it, I'm curious, what would you like to see in a new C&C game?

What I want to see is the series getting back to basics. Many of the newer games tried crazy things with the story, the armies, the mechanics, and all sorts of other things. But what they need to do is get back to what made them successful and make just a solid RTS, stick to the simple and clean mechanics, and make the two factions distinct. Nod is the cult filled with terrorists worshipping a quasi religions figure in Kane, and GDI is the government military force trying to keep the peace. No need for aliens or moving the setting away from the cold war style era.

I think if they kept everything clean and easy and stuck to their roots it would be wildly successful.

Played Grey Goo? It plays like you would expect a a modern C&C to play. I liked it, but basically nobody is playing multiplayer, so if you buy it you're buying it for the campaign.

Nice, my username here is instantly relevant. I have a bit of a unique history with this game, I haven't played many of the EA iterations but I played many hours in everything before that so a lot of my opinions are formed up from the original up until Tiberian Sun Firestorm.

A lot of RTS opinions will be mentioned here, but C&C did have some interesting non-RTS options. C&C Renegade for example had what I thought was a unique FPP/TPP perspective of the universe and it was super interesting. Right before splitting off into EA there were heavy rumors around an MMORTS. I'm not saying that either of those two ideas would revive C&C or even be better than a new RTS but the brand itself had so much firepower at one point that I hope it does come back one day.

On a separate note, Forged Battalion was started up by some of the former Westwood folks and may be worth a look for some of you.

Oooh fun, time for me to drop my first unpopular opinion on Tildes: I'm excited for C&C rivals. Maybe it will prove to be too pay2win when it comes out, but if it can strike a balance, I think it...
