The Old Green Guy is an orc, Varok Saurfang. To describe in detail how heroic this character is would take longer than this short cinematic. He is a Hero. The smaller blue guy is a troll, and is in the army that Saurfang is helping to lead. Saurfang is sure that his army is dishonorable; he's had a are we the baddies moment, and he's pretty sure that in addition to being the baddies, he's not worthy of a Hero's death.
They are under siege, and the outcome doesn't look good.

Thanks for the bit of story context. I played WoW only through the first expansion and always enjoyed the lore. I even read a website at one point with a message board dedicated to finding the Ashbringer (this was before WWotLK. This short made me realize how out of the loop I am regarding the lore. Any suggestions for reading up on how the world has progressed story wise?

If you want to read up on overall Lore, there are the Chronicles books that are available for purchase and are pretty great.
There's also r/WarcraftLore on reddit that has a lot of great conversation about what's happening.
Also, if you had specific questions, I might be able to sum up in brief, but I am by no means an expert at WoW lore. I enjoy WoW a lot and I find the overall lore to be very enjoyable but also silly, incomplete, and prone to retcons. For what it is - backstory that supports a video game - it's really quite good, but I also recognize that gameplay trumps backstory making sense.
Which is your favourite Overwatch short? I'm hard pressed to actually choose, but I might pick Bastion's as my favourite. Done entirely without words, it's a beautiful thing. The short, in case...
Having spent the last 15 minutes typing up reasons why I like one short, (Character development, music, the overarching theme of Hope), only to realize that those reasons apply to pretty much all...

Yeah, after posting about Bastion's being my favourite I thought, "but what about..." for each of the other shorts. I think Bastion nails the "Innocent AI mannerisms" that a bunch of other...

I think Bastion nails the "Innocent AI mannerisms" that a bunch of other characters (including the one you linked) have. It's a trope that I like a lot, partially because it asserts that underneath we have a formerly blank, innocent slate that our stories have been written on and that those stories define who we are. Sometimes it helps us remember that we can transcend the path that we're on to be as good as we were when we were actual innocents.

Know nothing about Warcraft, but having seen the Overwatch shorts, I agree that Blizzard's work is top-notch.

Also, is it just me, or does Bastion's mannerisms (innocence?) remind anyone of a certain character from Mass Effect?
