My thoughts on Stellaris: "Hey, I haven't played Stellaris since it was released. Maybe it's time to dust it off...Oh wait, there's a big update on the horizon. I'll just hold off until then."...

Haha very true. In this case I believe it's a few months away still and I usually only play the first 100 years or so before I get bored of a particular playthrough so I'll likely give it another go. I do like playing a game before an update though, it serves as a reminder for how things currently are so that it can be better compared to the changes in the update.

I saw this teased a few weeks ago. I'm excited for the release.
There was also a mod that was being worked on that removed the micro-managing of planets entirely and made it a more macro, grand-strategy-focused game. I don't feel like I've played the base game enough to mod it yet, but I feel like that could be popular among experienced Stellaris players.
I can find the mod if anyone is interested. I'm headed to bed now. :)
I remember that mod being mentioned around the time the first twitter spoiler pictures were being posted. The author seemed a bit dejected that all of his work was soon going to become obsolete,...

The author seemed a bit dejected that all of his work was soon going to become obsolete, though happy that he came up with a system that the official designers ended up moving towards.
Hmm, this looks pretty neat. Bare revisions to the planetary system sound promising -- it's been the least-fun part of Stellaris since launch for me -- but it sounds like they've settled on...

I like the current system but find it unnecessarily tedious, the new one sounds much better though. I hope that's something they're taking in to account here as I really don't want to have to have...

It feels like they're trying to add more depth to the game though which is great, it can feel a bit mechanically hollow sometimes.
I'm excited about performance improvements as apparently populations on planets and the logic to handle what they were doing would cause slowdowns in the late game when there were hundreds of them.

This is exciting! I've been playing Stellaris off and on since release, and the planetary tile system was by a mile my number one criticism of the game. The micro gets incredibly obnoxious once you start building ringworlds and the like, if you ascended synthetically there's a minimum of something like 3-400 clicks to fully develop a ringworld system's tiles. It got to the point where I'd just fill my core systems with habitats instead since each one of those could be fully developed with only 15-30 clicks.
It certainly didn't help that the Sector AI was so appalling, to the point they had to patch in the ability for players to manually modify planets which only further served to increase the micro....

As other have said, this is definitely a long wished for change. Can't wait to see this update released. In the meanwhile I experimented with endless space 2 but couldn't wrap my head around why I...

In the meanwhile I experimented with endless space 2 but couldn't wrap my head around why I didn't like it (well, mostly the combat).
Anyone tried it as well and care to share their thoughts about the main differences between the two titles?

Rinse. Repeat.
The work these devs do is amazing.
Relevant chapel comic.
