Conan Exiles is the free PS+ game this month, any Tilderinos playing it?

Downloaded it, it is NOT noob friendly but seems like it will be fun once I get it figured out. Has been a somewhat annoying process. Figured out the crafting system, get killed by exiles. Start trying to set up a camp fire and make a little space, get killed by some hyena thing that was invisible due to server lag (on an official server, no less). Which, of course, results in losing everything.

Anyone else playing it? What has your experience been like? Also looking for a good server/group to play with, although I probably will not be able to log in much since I have a fairly busy schedule.

I played Conan Exiles when it dropped in early access (don't remember which) like two years ago. I really loved the building system, and the dual triangular prism/cube blocks that you could combine into all sorts of realistic castly-looking structures. Probably most of the game has changed a lot since then (I only played for a month or two before getting tired of all the server wipes, and never got around to playing again), but hopefully the building mechanic is still as awesome as I remember.

I'm sorry to hear there are still significant lag problems. It was a rubber-band fest when I played, but I figured it would be worked out by release.

I played for about 3-4 months last year with a dozen or so friends.

I can't speak for on the PS, since I played on PC, but the sheer amount of griefing that happened on every official server we tried was insane and incredibly frustrating. Virtually every time you build something, no matter how small, even if it's tucked away in an obscure part of the map, when you come back the next day it will inevitably be partially/completely destroyed with most of your stuff gone. Unless you play on a PvE only server (really boring), or can stay logged in during the entire length of the raid time (6 hours long), you are going to have a very hard time establishing yourself... even with a rather large crew of players working together with you.

Eventually we gave up trying on official servers, and migrated to the Wars Of Elysium RPvP server. It is heavily managed with very active admins, a ton of rules to make it way more fun to PvP, and eliminate the griefing entirely. E.g. The map is broken up into many territories which must be claimed and fought over, with the southern area being for noobs to establish themselves without having to worry about being attacked by the already established clans. Landed clans (those with territories) can only declare wars and raids against other landed clans a certain amount of times per week, and they must be publicly declared 24 hours in advance on their Discord server so the opposing side has time to martial their forces to respond. It was a great server and I highly recommend checking it out!

So if you are going to play Conan Exiles (on PC), I would at least recommend finding a good private, modded server, like WoE to join since the official servers are all basically chaos, full of already established megaclans with invincible bases, and hackers/griefers galore.

Also worth noting is that Conan Exiles takes a very hands off approach to moderation, even on their official servers... i.e. they refuse to do any. So be prepared to be called the n-word (and worse) rather frequently. The official servers are basically all toxic shitholes as a result, at least on PC. :/

And another fair warning is that the PvP combat on Conan Exiles is really, really, really, janky... so the only viable builds right now are certain spears using autolock with them to fight, and poison + explosive arrows. Anything else equipped and you won't stand a chance against someone who knows what they are doing.

Glad I haven't sunk much time in either, after reading your post! The combat being soooo basic should have been a red flag.

Yeah, it's basically Rust combined with Minecraft, so there is a lot of griefing (and hacking) on the official PvP servers, which have no admin presence whatsoever. The crowd the game attracts is kinda immature to begin with too, because of the gratuitous nudity (cocks and tits hanging out everywhere). But if you can look past its shortcomings as a game, and find a good server with good admins that enforce some good rules, it's a lot of fun. ;)

I bought it on sale and got ~250 hours of entertainment out of it, so can't complain, but it's definitely not for everyone... especially if you plan on playing on the official servers.

I've been playing it on and off in Solo mode. It's oddly relaxing. I'm just trying to build a house. How is the online like?
