For this new combat update, and even the previous update it felt like it changed things too far from the classic minecraft I enjoyed. Simple easy to understand combat from the old beta days didn't require any understanding of mechanics, just swinging, feels so much more natural for minecraft. Adding more abilities and delays and new mechanics feels like it is over-complicating a simple game and simple mechanic.
Also changing hunger mechanic feels like a step back to beta, but with an extra step. If your hunger essentially equals hearts 1 for 1 kinda, might as well just have food directly restore hearts again.

Yeah, I feel kind of like an old fogey at this point. I liked the hunger system when it was implemented, but beyond that the new combat mechanics were a bit much for me and now there's so many new mechanics and enemies and blocks that I am not super interested in survival mode any more. I don't think I've been "in" to Minecraft since The End was released.

Now that I've read up on what's going on: I like it. It seems designed to increase the diversity of combat strategies and lower the overall tankyness of players in combat. Making a serious moment finish faster isn't a bad thing, and making it such that jumping crits with an axe isn't the be all end all of combat sounds nice too. I'm not convinced that not being able to attack at all until the timer is up is great, but with weapons having different timings now it's a great way for faster weapons to distinguish themselves.
Going a bit meta here, it would be nice to be able to flag tags on a post as 'required to make sense of wtf the post is about' - because without either seeing the Minecraft tag on this post or...

These flagged tags would appear like a [tag] before the title.
