There's a lot that's going to be riding on how good the game is out of the gate. Imperator: Rome is still to this day not that great, and while I love CK2, I'm wondering how they provide a base game that compares positively to it without the 10 years of content that they put into it. I suppose it's the same challenge that Civilization has faced repeatedly; do you cut features so that you have something to re-sell in expansions down the road, or do you try to provide a new product that has all the features of the old one but also lock yourself into the design decisions you made in the older product?
I'll buy the base game, but I'll hold off on the season pack until I'm sure I like the base game enough to be in it for the long haul.
I think they are going to run into similar trouble as Imperator because the "Everyone is Playable only *Select countries* have content" model is terrible for their flavour of strategy games. It...
I think they are going to run into similar trouble as Imperator because the "Everyone is Playable only *Select countries* have content" model is terrible for their flavour of strategy games. It leaves all nations feeling weak and you can feel the plug in slots for DLC because you are playing the nation.
I think CK3 would work much better with CK2's release strategy of Western Catholic Europe has depth and content and you can't play the rest of the world without future DLC. It's probably less financially profitable early because you can't make memes about playing as Kush or whatever everyone's go to country is (outside of europe mine is Iran generally) but in the long run they'd work out ahead and they'd rebuild a lot of the goodwill they lost from the recent releases.
Honestly the amount of content CKII has at this point is almost intimidating to me - the DLCs are mostly great, but they also add complexity on top of what is already a complex game. I'm actually...

They usually have some pretty knowledgeable streamers that I'm excited to watch as well!
Do you happen to know any good CK youtubers? For Civ, I pretty much watch Marbozir only, everyone else is too fast or too loud for my taste.. If you know someone closer to his style, I could watch...

The standard cast of big name Grand Strategy/Paradox YouTubers have a decent amount of CK2 content: quill18, arumba, northernlion, and shenryyr. And outside those, there are a few others I can...

And outside those, there are a few others I can think of who I regularly watch that have a few CK2 runs as well, namely ManyATrueNerd and taureor
+1 for quill18 and arumba. Will need to check the others out. Usually with a big release Paradox will have an official stream that consists of most of these personalities streaming together. It's...

Usually with a big release Paradox will have an official stream that consists of most of these personalities streaming together. It's a good way to get exposure to the various personalities, and I enjoy the collaborative aspect of several of these streamers working together.
If you're looking for a good place to start, taureor has some really well edited, incredible game mechanic exploiting videos from HOI4, e.g. China annexes USA. And Many A True Nerd is most well...

And Many A True Nerd is most well known for his insane Fallout runs where he imposes ridiculous rulesets on himself, e.g. Fallout New Vegas: You Only Live Once, or his latest The Worst Courier run where he artificially bottomed out the character stats and skills to start off.

There was also a post on the Xbox blog saying that it will be available on release day on Xbox Game Pass for PC: https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2020/05/14/crusader-kings-3-rides-to-glory-september-1/
