I have conflicted feelings about this. It's great to see a developer proposing and trying to push an eco-friendly alternative to plastic packaging... But was plastic packaging ever that much of a problem, games-wise? It's not like it's single-use and throw away, for the vast majority of people.
Surely part of the problem here is the need to go physical at all! I get that not everyone is blessed with a strong enough Internet connection to be able to download most of their games, but it seems to me that that would be the way to go to encourage reduced plastic usage (no discs then, either).
Also $35 for a fairly short game is pretty cheeky, IMO.

You don't pay extra for the physical version because you want the game. You pay for it so you can have a display object.

Ah yeah, that's a fair point. I aim for minimalism personally, so I don't display any of the few physical copies of games, movies, or books that I own. I can see why others do though, so it makes...

And to be sure, the cardboard box is a really lovely object, and it would look nice in a collection

I really enjoy a lot about my Kobo e-reader, but I do find I miss the actual books from time to time. I had a reason to log into the actual website for the first time in years, and it displayed my library to me. The sudden visibility of all the book covers in full color on a desktop screen brought back an avalanche of pleasant memories of all the stories. Like looking through a family photo album. It made me want to print out all the covers onto boxes and put them on a shelf just so I could walk by them and have that same feeling from time to time.
