The OBS Project has accused StreamLabs of copying their name and trademark
@OBS:
Near the launch of SLOBS, @streamlabs reached out to us about using the OBS name. We kindly asked them not to. They did so anyway and followed up by filing a trademarkWe've tried to sort this out in private and they have been uncooperative at every turnhttps://t.co/r1eXr3VxcJ
I was certainly under the impression Streamlabs OBS was a collaboration, and a number of streamers appear to have been as well. Them using the OBS name certainly isn't illegal, but is really quite shitty, especially if OBS has been asking them to stop.
A bunch of ex-employees (and other companies) are also attesting to unethical business practices by Streamlabs.
Streamlabs says they'll be removing "OBS" from their name.
I stopped streaming right about the time that SLOBS was introduced. I knew, at that time, it was a forking of software, but that's because I paid special attention to the situation (and OBS in general.) StreamLabs has done nothing to clarify the issue and deliberately muddied the waters, and should be ashamed of themselves.
I feel like I got played, I thought it was a collaboration like many others.
Interestingly enough you can also just use plain ol' OBS with Streamlabs. In fact SLOBS tends to work worse than upstream when you get the upstream version configured properly, at least according to a streamer I follow.
What a bunch of nasty trolls!
