Self compassion is hugely helpful. Most people likely are compassionate towards themselves in certain ways but not in others. I used to struggle a lot more with perfectionism when it came to my body and fitness, for example, but had no issues when I failed at a task such as studying and was able to incorporate it as motivation to do better in the future without beating myself up over it. I often make a point to tell people they need to be compassionate to themselves and ask them how they'd treat a friend going through similar issues when they are too hard on themselves because I've found that framing particularly useful as well.
