Maybe this is coincidence, but I know several older cyclists who suffered serious injury when they fell off their bikes. They were all experienced cyclists who rode for many years. One just fainted one day for reasons that haven't been diagnosed. One (who I only knew slightly, a neighbor of a friend) ended up in a coma and just recently returned home, last I heard.

I’m not a senior, but I am a 40 year old fat guy, and when the weather permits I cycle about 12-15 miles per day. More on weekends. When the weather does not permit, I punish myself on an elliptical machine. Unfortunately, being in the upper Midwest, the weather does not permit for several months each year.

Still, though, cycling makes me feel great.
