PE has been buying up US healthcare companies left and right. It's nothing new. And, to put it plainly, fucking sucks.

Speaking of this study specifically, I forgot the specific Bill name but there was legislation passed specifically targeting healthcare systems who do surprise billing.
Found it! Here Not great, but a step in the right direction.

From a business perspective - makes perfect sense right? People need medicine and care, so why not privatize it?! Ugh.

Leonard Green and Partners, which bought 17 hospitals and loaded them up with debt to pay itself dividends.

Prospect Medical Holdings, a fund that owns over 20 hospitals

As the supply of doctors is restricted in the US, and the demand for healthcare increases with an aging population, private equity firms smell profit. Even companies like Amazon and Walmart are trying to break into those sweet healthcare dollars. It's a clusterfuck of Medicare Advantage reimbursement rates bleeding the US government and almost no-one being willing to set hard limits at a federal level.
