    This is likely to be a precursor to an EU-wide ban on the use of PFAS in food containers and food handling. [Waiting for U.S. regime change before we see comparable action; Chinese manufacture and distribution is likely to continue unhindered for a while as well.]

    As a class, perfluoroalkyl compounds are known to be resistant to environmental or metabolic degradation, and they will accumulate in the food chain.

    For the most heavily manufactured PFAS, perfluorooctanoic acid, measurements in humans indicate a half-life of 3.5 years; even a total ban won't eliminate risks that may persist for decades.

    Broader environmental risks aren't well-studied, but the hormone-mimic effects of these compounds will probably cause harm in other animals.
