I’m still healing from my bike wreck a couple of weeks ago. I have been going on 30 minute walks at night which has been a nice change of pace. Honestly struggling a little with accepting that I need more time to recover. I have been doing a sports rehab meditation series on Headspace which has been helping a teeny bit.

Went down hard on some gravel. I’ve done the fire road dozens of times, but it was a little more washed out than usual, I was carrying a heavy load for overnight camping, and I was in a large group (probably should have given myself more space out front to react). The good news is that this is only the second time I’ve been hurt cycling in the 10-12 years I’ve been doing it regularly! The other time I was hit by a car, and that was much worse (hairline fracture in my pelvis) than this injury.

I don't like that besides trying to be careful I don't think I can do much to avoid getting hit by a car on my bike in the future.

I definitely don't recommend it! I will say that I have several friends who have been riding about as much as me who have never been hit by a car, so it's possible. Being extremely defensive and not taking risks is a big part of avoiding car collisions. I've had plenty of near-misses. :/

Not quite the same as actually doing fitness things yet, but my partner and I are going to check out a gym in the area. Its been a number of years since they have done anything really fitness-related, so we're joining together to make it a bit easier for them. I'm excited to have access to more than the minimal equipment I've been able to scrap together in my apartment.

In the last few months I've been doing 5 min rounds hitting the heavy bag. It makes me hate life while I'm doing it but the boost in my endurance has been worth it

I've started playing in the local flag rugby competition. I've always hated cardio exercise, but there's nothing like playing in a team to motivate you to perform (or at least, not embarrass yourself too much). The social teams are mixed (men, women and kids), so it's a good, friendly vibe.

I've been working on an extremely gradual couch-to-5k plan since April.

It starts with working your way up to walking for 30 minutes. Each week after that, a total portion of running replaces some of the walking, but the running portion can be handled however you want - for example 2 minutes of running can be split into eight 15-second Intervals, etc.

This is kicking off month 4 of the plan, and I ran a 12 minute walk/18 run plan today, I made a lot of progress with this run! I broke an 8:13 minute pace and ran over 4.5 km! These are PBs for the year, the year before that, the year before that... It's been a while since I've seriously tried getting my cardio going, ok? Ha.

I have also crossed 100 cumulative km walked+ran this year, so that's progress! I plan on getting through the next 100 faster!
