It looks like the meeting happened tonight. Any update from Detroiters? I’m a fan of this place from way back - one of my fav songs was even about it! I hope it survives.

It looks like the redevelopment proposal was unanimously approved and is now going in front of City Council. The developer is willing to work with Marvin’s, but it’s unclear what that means.

In my experience that usually means they'll ask Marvin's to match the significantly higher rent they stand to get from the Meijer store. They "save face" when Marvin's can't afford it and has to close or move. The owner will usually not consider any discount despite the higher rent they would get being after the costs of demolition, and potentially even construction on the new building (which can even include costs like maintenance on larger parking lots, the increase cost of property tax from the subsequently higher valuation, etc). I'm not from Detroit but I assume property tax is a thing there and functions similarly to my state. I don't actually have any insider knowledge on this particular location or landlord, I am just speaking from experience working in an industry that deals with developers, landlords, and construction.
This will not be the end of MMMM! Yes, the city voted and the mall will be torn down but from what I understand we have our space till the end of the year.
We will be moving, not closing! Where? I do not know as of yet but I hope to stay within the same general area and will keep everyone posted as things progress but again WE ARE NOT CLOSING! - at Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum.

I only knew the Tally Hall album. Interesting to see there’s more music with this as a reference.
From the museum's Facebook page:

Title pretty much says it all though. It's only a 216 word article.
