Archery general thread

Is anyone here involved with archery in any way?
I've been thinking about looking for a local archery club because I've always had an interest in it, especially in a competitive context. As a 15-17 year old I spent many hours in the backyard coming up with wild trickshots and not stopping until I perfected them. I want that specific type of joy back.
I had a (maximum) 110lb youth model Diamond compound bow but it's the only bow I've ever owned. Also looking for reccomendations for my first adult sized bow. I don't care if it's an English-style longbow, compound, or a weird horsebow, I'd love the input either way.

I'm no expert, but I recently joined a club, so I'll hand out the same advice I was given. Don't rush into buying a bow. the club I'm at has bows to rent, if you can, try the rentals out. Talk to...

Don't rush into buying a bow. the club I'm at has bows to rent, if you can, try the rentals out. Talk to the other club members. Most will be stoked to let you try theirs. You can get a feel for what you like and what you don't

If you just want to shoot targets (competition) a recurve bow is an easy way to get back into it. If you want to hunt at some point you'll most likely want to go to a compound eventually.

Nice! I've had the same experience at gun ranges before; gun nerds love to to show off and share their custom builds and/or unique firearms. And yeah I figured a recurve might be my way of getting...

And yeah I figured a recurve might be my way of getting back into the sport, partially because I think that would be the most enjoyable way to re-learn my old hobby. I have almost no desire to hunt for sport, but I know I could enjoy it in a more patrician and honorable way once my skill level was back up to par.

I still haven't had a chance to try it in a long time, but here's an old thread: https://tildes.net/~hobbies/16bq/any_archery_fans_in_here_lets_get_something_started

Ah, thank you. That thread seems like a good read.
