Comic Books - tell me about your favorites, my Tilderinos!
Or whatever else you'd want to talk about concerning comic books!
A new comic book shop has opened in my town, and my fiancée and I are pretty excited about it. We've never really been into them, but we're pretty excited to get into them. On that note, does anyone have any good recommendations for a newcomer?
As a neat aside, we have a thirty-plus year old comic book-ization of Return of the Jedi, and that's pretty cool.
The last comic I really dug into was The Authority.
I'm going to check this out too. Been starting to read more Midnighter.
Authority is very good.
If you liked that check out Planetary and Global Frequency.

What sort of comics do you like? Marvel vs DC vs independents? Any particular genres or art styles or whatever?
I'm pretty into comics, specifically DC, Bat-family ones. However, I'm not really caught up with the latest Rebirth (just not that into them so far).
If you're into Star Wars, I really like the Darth Vader run.
You know, I'm honestly still trying to get into comics in the first place! It can be hard to know where to start. I think independents could be real fun to explore, but who doesn't like Marvel or DC? The universe (universes?) are so expansive and interesting to me, but I think that I'd enjoy a good one-off too.
I've heard good things about the Darth Vader comics. He's apparently a total beast, which is something I've always wanted to see more of on screen. Thanks for reminding me it exists! I'll have to check them out.
Yeah, I know what you mean about the universe being so expansive. A few of my favourite DC standalones:
For more series ones, the New 52 is good. They sorta reset the universe and redid their arcs, so ~6/7 singles are bound in one trade and is generally a complete story arc (Rebirth does this too):
Marvel:
Independent/others:
Thanks a ton for this! I'll definitely be sure to check these out. Got my eyes on Red Son, Spider-Gwen, and Darth Vader!
Love to discuss them after you've read them :)
You might be interested in What are some of your favorite comic book stories for "classic" characters?.
I would be, thanks very much for the link.
My favorite graphic novels are Bone, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, and Essex County
I just picked up a graphic novel called "Sabrina" by Nick Drnaso that looks excellent.
Almost all the new Star Wars comics definitely get my vote. I feel like that comic universe is still small enough that I can grasp all the different pieces.
The Ms. Marvel comics with Kamala Khan has also been an absolute pleasure to read, ditto for Gwen-Pool.
Hickman's run on Avengers was also amazing.
The most recent Secret Wars event was really fun for me, though that might be way to much to bite off to start with.
A series I really enjoyed that hasn't been mentioned so far in this thread is The Invisibles by Grant Morrison.
Wolverine goes to Hell if we’re talking Marvel.
Crossed and Rising Shotgun if we’re talking Graphic Novels.
