Comic Books - tell me about your favorites, my Tilderinos!

Or whatever else you'd want to talk about concerning comic books!

A new comic book shop has opened in my town, and my fiancée and I are pretty excited about it. We've never really been into them, but we're pretty excited to get into them. On that note, does anyone have any good recommendations for a newcomer?

As a neat aside, we have a thirty-plus year old comic book-ization of Return of the Jedi, and that's pretty cool.

The last comic I really dug into was The Authority.

Authority is very good. If you liked that check out Planetary and Global Frequency.

I'm pretty into comics, specifically DC, Bat-family ones. However, I'm not really caught up with the latest Rebirth (just not that into them so far).

If you're into Star Wars, I really like the Darth Vader run.

You know, I'm honestly still trying to get into comics in the first place! It can be hard to know where to start. I think independents could be real fun to explore, but who doesn't like Marvel or DC? The universe (universes?) are so expansive and interesting to me, but I think that I'd enjoy a good one-off too.

I've heard good things about the Darth Vader comics. He's apparently a total beast, which is something I've always wanted to see more of on screen. Thanks for reminding me it exists! I'll have to check them out.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the universe being so expansive. A few of my favourite DC standalones:

        • Superman Red Son
        • The Dark Knight Returns
        • Batman Hush/Heart of Hush
        • Under the Red Hood
        • Flashpoint
        • Hush Beyond
        • Joker: Death of the Family (this one collects from New 52 Batman, and other runs)

For more series ones, the New 52 is good. They sorta reset the universe and redid their arcs, so ~6/7 singles are bound in one trade and is generally a complete story arc (Rebirth does this too):

        • Batman
        • Nightwing
        • Batgirl
        • Batman and Robin
        • Batman and Robin Eternal (this one's hit or miss, though I enjoyed it)

        Marvel:

        • Amazing Spiderman (I read these as single issues and on Marvel Unlimited, so not sure how they might be collected)
        • Spider-Gwen
        • Spiderman/Deadpool
        • Darth Vadar

        Independent/others:

        • Watchmen
        • Sandman

The Ms. Marvel comics with Kamala Khan has also been an absolute pleasure to read, ditto for Gwen-Pool.

Hickman's run on Avengers was also amazing.

The most recent Secret Wars event was really fun for me, though that might be way to much to bite off to start with.

A series I really enjoyed that hasn't been mentioned so far in this thread is The Invisibles by Grant Morrison.

Wolverine goes to Hell if we’re talking Marvel. Crossed and Rising Shotgun if we’re talking Graphic Novels.
