Getting my new skate boots!

I'm so excited. I'm getting measured very soon for custom-fit Harlick figure skating boots.

Takes 8-10 weeks for them to be ready, so I'll have them before my local rink reopens! I've been going to an ice rink much further so I don't get rusty in the mean timeā€¦ it's fun, but exhausting (and expensive) to travel an hour and back every time for just 3.5hrs of training.

Booking for measurements wasn't exactly simple either. I have to travel to France, take two trains and three taxis to get to some city I've never even heard of. And that's the closest shop to me.

Seriously I'm hyped. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas day right now, and this week I'm traveling to give my wishlist to Santa in person.

Slightly offtopic, but I figured given your interest in figure skating, you might enjoy this: Canadian National Figure Skater at 2500' in the mountains | Shot in 4k!

That was super nice! And yeah. A friend of mine mentioned the Canadian lakes as a place to skate on. I actually really want to go to Gorky Park at some point. This beautiful hyperlapse made me...

But with COVID and all, I don't know if I'll be going this year. I might go to Sweden to skate on some lakes though :)

I had never heard of Gorsky park before but that skate path looks beautiful and pretty epic! Kinda reminds me of when the Dutch were able to skate in the canals of Amsterdam a few years ago.

Awesome -- I used to roller-skate and getting my boots was a great time. Skating is so much fun! Does your local rink close down in the summer?

Yup, my local rink is about ~20 mins walk+metro away from me and it closes every summer from May to September. They closed a month early due to the lockdown this time around. That's why I'm going by train+bus to the one an hour away.

I was so tempted to get roller skates throughout the lockdown! But eh, sports stores were closed anyway, I just gave it a rest. My ankles were thankful for the break, though they're starting to hurt again now.

I'm actually thinking of turning my current ice skates into roller skates once I get my Harlicks.

Roller skating is great! I don't know enough about ice skating to tell the difference between the two, but roller skating is definitely a great time and better-suited to summer :) Turning ice...

          It's a pretty fun watch.

Honestly, the feel of the cold and the ice is a big part of why I love ice skating so I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy roller skates but I'm willing to try!

Ooh now I'm wanting to go ice skating - the problem with roller skating esp in Louisiana is how HOTT it gets in the summer in the un-air-conditioned practice track I'd go to. So I agree with you...

Seriously. It was 32 degrees the other day and I was skating for 4 hours in a room air conditioned to 4 degrees. It's AWESOME.

Is that Celsius? Or are you in some magical winter land where it's 32 F in May? :P

Well my rink is definitely not AC'd to 4 degrees Farenheit ;)

Haha! That would be pretty cold, now that I think about it :)
