    I'm not sure where I got my info from, but afaict, this video undersells the sheer incompetence on display by both sides' officers. It's hinted at that the British did not properly present the terms they were willing to accept, instead sometimes talking of "scuttle or be destroyed" essentially. It's no wonder the french didn't accept that, but it's no wonder either the french never heard the full story if they were not willing to meet the British representative. I think this whole thing could've been avoided with proper communication, given both sides were essentially in agreement: The ships are never to aid the German cause. If the ships were to support the British in the med instead, who knows what that would've changed. Could have made the battle of Malta a lot more boring and the axis supply lines into Africa a lot more "interesting".

    Sounds to me like the officers fucked around and the french sailors found out...
