    This is a fantastic video.

Although the video is less American centric, it is blatently obvious that the Republican party is seeking to eliminate all pretenses of a liberal democracy in favor of a blend of those options. No need to look beyond the farce that was the impeachment trial.

To be clear, this is not an endorsement of the Democratic Party, primarily because they are complicit in the onward march to authoritarianism.

The first few years of Obama's presidency was a mandate of the people. Largely, that mandate was not fulfilled, in part due to compromising with bad faith actors.

They are complicit in continually shifting the overton window to the right, so much so that many modern Democrats are philosophically aligned with the Republicans of the 80s and 90s. The persistent cries of "we must appeal to the center" results only in an onward march towards authoritarian extremism. Further, because the overton window keeps shifting, the positions considered moderate today will be considered "far left" within a few years unless something changes.

My hope for this country lies almost solely with Bernie Sanders. He is the only one with a substantial following willing to call out this bullshit with credibility to back it up. Perhaps if he can use the presidency as a bully pulpit, even if none of his visions get enacted, he can name and shame those who prevent it. He can work to inspire the downtrodden, and unite them to push back against these authoritarian tendencies, paving a way forward.

I'm on team "blue no matter who" this election. But if Bernie is not elected, I'm going to give some serious consideration to fleeing this sinking ship. I last contemplated that on Trump's election, and in retrospect my decision to wait it out was probably a bad one.
