This is how we wound up with de facto minority (wealthy, white) rule, and it's instructive for nations going through their own authoritarian transitions. The more various minorities are fractionated and disenfranchised, the more difficult it is to create majoritarian pluralities or sustain governing coalitions that truly reflect majority rule.

On a more substantial note, we have a sordid history of racism just like everywhere else. Redlining was a thing in both Milwaukee and Madison, and even in Madison where we pride ourselves on being progressive there's still so much work to do.
