That was a rough but valuable watch. Helps me put the greater freedom and safety that I have as a queer person in the US into perspective.
It also reminded me of two other documentaries. The facial masking reminded me of Welcome to Chechnya which used facial replacement to hide the identities of queer refugees while still allowing them to appear on film. Meanwhile, the subject matter reminded me of Hunted, which details the exact same process of gangs entrapping and then beating/extorting queer people, only this one focuses on Russia instead of Egypt (warning: this one is extremely difficult to watch).
It would be amusing to create a bunch of fake accounts for Egyptian politicians and fake the location data to be roughly where those people are expected to be.
