US Ninth circuit court of appeal upholds preliminary injunction against Idaho law banning transgender girls and women participation in women's sports

I haven't yet found a news article, but will add if I find one.

Here is the ruling.

But I'm honestly really tired that this and public bathrooms seem to be the most talked about issues in mainstream media.

Access to healthcare is by far the most pressing matter. Next on the list is probably something like legislature and hate crime. Professional sports is pretty far down the list in my opinion. There are so few people that become athletes, and vanishingly few trans people at that. But it's a topic that's great for outrage and "debate", so that's what goes into the mill of the media...

As for what this thread is actually about, I think u/nukeman has the gist of it in terms of future policies. As far as I know, there still hasn't been any research done about trans women who have undergone male puberties vs. ones that have been on blockers. It's discriminatory to blanket ban every trans person from participating in competitive sports, but I honestly don't care because science is probably against us on this.

Anecdotally, I was very average compared to cis men. Compared to cis women though, I am taller, heavier, and still stronger, even though I've definitely gotten weaker from 3+ years of estrogen. Studies and research needs to be done before I'm gonna get outraged about us being banned from competing professionally. It sucks, but that's how it is. Those were the cards we were dealt, and it just so happens to limit us from being "normal" in this particular way, among many others.

There are so many things that are more important.

I wish we could just out right combine men and women sports.

If you do that, you’ll end up just getting men’s sports. Women would end up being dominated by men due to the physical differences, and many sports don’t have an equivalent women’s professional league. It would end up one or two women per team of people. You have to have separate women’s leagues in order for women to have a chance.

As for trans folks, I think what you’ll probably end up seeing (especially for HS/NCAA) is a “you must be on blockers before you hit puberty” policy or something similar. You can’t outright exclude them, as it is both incredibly unfair and denies them the benefits of competitive sports, but as trans people start to become more visible, they will likely start to be more common in sports, and it won’t be a one-off any more.
