This is so depressing. I guess I have another little detail to add to the list of reasons I'm glad to be from a country that, though it has its struggles, at least affords reasonable availability of preventative treatments for HIV spreading, and a reasonably low stigma associated with getting them (though obviously that could be better).
I mean, 25% from an epidemiological is horrifying. That's well beyond the point at which it becomes so common that you have to assume everyone can have HIV.
And with this sort of stigma, you can also very easily have assholes who intentionally spread HIV to unwitting partners.
It's just horrible.
That happens even in your country and mine! There have been a couple of cases recently here in Australia where people have been convicted of deliberately infecting their partners with HIV.
Absolutely. It's the examples that happen in the US I'd point to as "even in a country like this, this is something that happens (but at least we have a legal system that can try to address it)." In a situation like this, it seems impossible to prove even that.
