I went to school with a kid from grade school through high school. I think we had a class together in grade school...and maybe one or two during high school. Not best of friends, or anything, but we were friendly. Apparently this kid was transgender, though gave no indication in high school. Transitioned male-to-female sometime after high school. I only learned because my brother-in-law read an article about this kid, noticed we attended the same school, and asked if we were acquainted. She was murdered while taking home a man who also didn't know she transitioned. Had a really rough life after transitioning, too.

I do have some fond memories of this person. Very friendly and good-humored. I remember in grade school being told by them that wearing a hat would cause you to eventually go bald. And a very.. entertaining presentation (quite frankly, it was fairly odd with possibly naked anime characters in each slide with strategically placed text boxes obscuring things).. they threw in 10th grade history class.
