Similar to the "What's your theme for 2022" thread we had earlier, I've found this blog post that covers a similar topic.

    It asks the question:

[...] what if, for a whole year, you stopped acquiring new things or taking on new pursuits. Instead, you return to abandoned projects, stalled hobbies, unread books and other neglected intentions, and go deeper with them than you ever have before.

A Backlog Burner, IRL if you will.

I plan to take the premise of this and try it out. There are several things that I used to be very into, that have fallen by the wayside. (for good reason and not!)

The two big ones off the top of my head are:

    • I want to start playing the drums again. Not just playing, but practicing and getting better, and being able to play along to more of the songs that I listen too. I love music, and I want it to be a bigger part of my life.
    • I want to find my love for programming again. I have several distinct memories of all-nighters I pulled in college for a programming project.

First one was me creating a battleship clone in python for a final project in my "Intro to programming course", and the second was creating a scoring algorithm to determine how similar two words were in my "Data Structures and Algorithms" class. Both of these projects, funnily enough, were turned in "unfinished" as defined by the requirements of the project. Even so, I remember the feeling of, like, joy, and wonder, and confidence that I had as I was writing them. I want that again, and I think I need to start investing in myself again to get there.

What about everyone else? Are there hobbies or skills you'd like to revisit or rekindle the flame for?
