For many women, the cost of living crisis has highlighted the societal pressures to maintain a beauty routine and adhere to an increasingly unattainable standard they can no longer afford to meet. My parents did but not to the extent that I see in others. My mother still won't go out in public without makeup on. When I was much younger I remember how awful it was to try and actively keep up and fail miserably at following ridiculous beauty rituals that were set out magazines etc. that were really just a front for advertising. It always felt artificial though as I never felt any better about myself, and ditching everything made a world of difference. What you describe is the case for you now is the same for me. I'm proud of myself that I've only purchased one new item of clothing in the past 10 years. Thrifting is great for sure, although it's not what it used to be as the prices by and large have almost doubled or tripled in the space of about 5 years.
