“Watching her dad lower her over the side … 350 miles offshore, pitch dark. He’s never met [Holt] before, totally trusting him with his daughter’s life. … It really hit me hard,” said Junghans, who at the time had an 11-month-old daughter at home. “I know how protective I am of my daughter, how hard that would be for me to let her go and just trust.”

The mystifying question is how a 23 yr old ingested enough antifreeze to go unconscious. No one accidentally drinks that much antifreeze - it tastes odd enough that one wouldn't drink it accidentally.

Holy crap that video is incredible. Hundreds of miles off-shore in complete darkness and they managed to get such a clear view of the rescue. Props to the team for their professionalism and props to the system/infrastructure that allows rescues like this to happen. Not that I'll ever find myself in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, but it's strangely comforting knowing that rescue operations like this one are possible. Thanks for sharing!
