I don't want to dismiss Summar i P1 - it is as the article says a Swedish institution and there have been some incredible episodes I've listened to. But sometimes it does feel a bit bland/ insipid...

I don't want to dismiss Summar i P1 - it is as the article says a Swedish institution and there have been some incredible episodes I've listened to. But sometimes it does feel a bit bland/ insipid to me.

I think part of that is that as a non-Swede not living in Sweden I don't always know the contexts of who the guests are. But also the more straightforwardly autobiographical episodes can feel a bit self-congratulatory, even if they're not supposed to. Having grown up with Desert Island Discs in the UK (which I would agree with the article is the British equivalent) I sometimes find myself wishing for an interviewer to nudge the discussion towards something more interesting. Plus the music can often feel a bit boring or on-the-nose.

Admittedly I haven't listened to any of this year's episodes as I've been slacking in keeping up with my Swedish and haven't tuned into P1 as often. It would be interesting to hear from some Swedes on how they feel about the show.
