    This is more of a fun list of concepts that have been condensed into jargon terms, basically. Some of them are just fancier ways to refer to more mundane ideas but they're still interesting...

    This is more of a fun list of concepts that have been condensed into jargon terms, basically. Some of them are just fancier ways to refer to more mundane ideas but they're still interesting nonetheless.

    I particularly liked this one:

    Apophenia: A tendency to perceive correlations between unrelated things, because your mind can only deal with tiny sample sizes and assuming things are correlated creates easy/comforting explanations of how the world works.

    And also this couplet:

    Pollyanna Principle: It’s easier to remember happy memories than bad ones.

    Declinism: Perpetually viewing society as in decline, because you’re afflicted by the Pollyanna Principle and you forget how much things sucked in the past.

      I feel like the majority of these concepts can just be summed up as corollaries to the Dunning-Kruger effect. I.e. people optimistically assume the best of themselves, but are able to more...

      I feel like the majority of these concepts can just be summed up as corollaries to the Dunning-Kruger effect. I.e. people optimistically assume the best of themselves, but are able to more rationally judge others when their emotional biases are less involved.
