    Incredible article.

    This was telling though:

By the end of their relationship in September, though, she found herself having to not only try to get Craig to do his share of the laundry

Seems like a strong tell that someone's a bit of a man-child if they have to figure out who's doing what laundry.

I wonder if an algorithm can predict whether someone will be red-pilled based on how little laundry or how few dishes they wash.

edit: Also, this is definitely an indication of a cyberpunk future with enclaves. People will voluntarily join groups for ideals that aren't really connected to anything. Red pills aren't really conservatives, they aren't really neo-liberals, they're not really anarcho-capitalists, they aren't really religious of any persuasion, etc. They're their own group with its own mores and rules and ideas. Are they sub-cultures? Not really because they have infrastructure. Democratizing the means of productions also means these weird enclaves also get access. The future is going to get even weirder than it already is. We're essentially seeing gated communities formed in the mind.

Its interesting how people go this way. I run a casual linux irc channel and in the beginning there was this user who was mostly ok but it was clear they had some mental issues, they would get really angry over trivial things every now and then but nothing too serious. Over the next 2-3 years they when from slightly unstable to fully insane. All they ever posted was racist rants and anti gay messages despite being gay themself. Eventually had to ban them because they were so far gone it was clear they could never participate in a civil group.

I just don't know what happened. How does this happen so fast? Are certain people more susceptible to this? Does our modern tech cause this? What can be done?

I'm not sure but some people are just very susceptible to just kind of absorbing the stuff they immerse themselves in. My girlfriend has tried to slip down some weird roads in the past, just by coming into prolonged contact with people from those roads. For example, in the past she had a roommate who often browsed /v/fatpeoplehate. When they'd go out to Walmart or whatever they'd go "whale-spotting." It was pretty awful. But when she was removed from that influence she shed all that insane crap very quickly without that continuing outside influence. You ask her now and she's pretty horrified about it. She's kind of a special case, like your IRC friends she's got a little extra baggage but I wonder if the same would hold for other people.

One terrible side-effect of ideological atrocities such as "the red pill" is the eradication of nuance. There are relevant matters regarding men's issues that should be openly discussed in a sensible, non-antagonizing fashion, but things became so polarized that one needs to be very careful to not inadvertently fuel bigoted agendas.
