Alliance Defending Freedom has won fifteen Supreme Court cases. Now it wants religious exemptions to anti-discrimination laws—and is going after trans rights.

Oh, that name. "Alliance Defending Freedom." The only freedom they care about is the freedom to discriminate. So typical of the right wing.

I'll give it to the right; they know how to brand properly. "Occupy Wallstreet," "Defund the Police," and even "Black Lives Matter" can be somewhat problematic. Probably arises because these were created organically through the masses, as opposed to what I'm assuming are the focus grouped names that tend to be created on the right. The Republican never-Trumpers "the Lincoln Project" was another decent one. How can someone be against Abraham Lincoln?

About the only well-branded name or phrase I can think of right now that champions more liberal causes is the Human Rights Campaign. They're an LGBTQ civil rights advocacy group. Hard to be against human rights, in the same way that it's hard to be against "defending freedom." Even if the "alliance" is against freedom for all in the first place.

Absolutely agreed, I really wish some of that PR and brand management expertise could be pointed at causes that'd actually help people. We need a results-focused left, and my one small hope there...

Absolutely agreed, I really wish some of that PR and brand management expertise could be pointed at causes that'd actually help people. We need a results-focused left, and my one small hope there is at least a few of the newer cohort in the US are doing a decent job of cutting into the social media discourse rather than acting like "high road" is synonymous with "let your opponents' bad faith mudslinging control the narrative".

Hard to be against human rights, in the same way that it's hard to be against "defending freedom."

Sadly the UK government are doing their level fucking best to try it anyway.

It's like the European Research Group here in the UK. Sounds like a think tank that's perhaps friendly or at least neutral towards Europe and the EU but it's the opposite. It's actually a caucus...

It's like the European Research Group here in the UK. Sounds like a think tank that's perhaps friendly or at least neutral towards Europe and the EU but it's the opposite. It's actually a caucus and think tank for some of the most eurosceptic Conservative Members of Parliament in the UK.

I'm trans and living in a state mentioned several times in this article. I feel more in danger with every day that passes. It's a good article, but it is all so terrifying.
