The trip back was all train, no buses, so we shouldn't have had to deal with any traffic. Of course some impatient person messed up a set of doors on our train just before we got to Union causing a nearly 20 minute delay and we missed our train back to Newmarket. Ended up taking a $60 Uber lol. Luckily traffic heading out of the city was not bad by then.

I travelled from Newmarket to Hamilton Ontario on public transit. Normally a 2ish hour trip took over 4 hours and it was horizon-to-horizon clouds the whole way. I was sincerely bummed at the weather but we were determined to stick it out anyways. We made it to Bayfront Park in Hamilton around 2pm and as soon as we arrived we noticed blue sky in the distance, the first clear sky we had seen all day. By the time the eclipse was at 50% the clear patch was upon us and we had a perfect view! The crowd went wild when the clouds parted for us.

Totality was truly something else. The entire horizon looked like a sunset in every direction, the temperature dropped dramatically and you could suddenly see your breath, streetlights came on and birds started singing as if it was early morning. I am seriously considering taking a trip to Iceland or Spain for the 2026 eclipse.

And give yer balls a tug.

There's also a funny Polish historical comedy called 1670 which I've been enjoying. First thing I've ever watched in Polish.

I studied Japanese for a few years in an immersion class. Once the lessons started it was Japanese-only the whole time. It took the whole first lesson for us to learn how to say what is this, what is that, this is an apple, that is an apple. Super basic but a strong foundation to build on. The teacher was fantastic. They also organized a monthly language exchange meetup where the Canadians learning Japanese would get together with Japanese people learning English. It was a really fantastic way to get to actually use the language, and I made a ton of Japanese friends through the program who I keep in touch with to this day. Life kinda got in the way and I stopped studying, but I reckon I could still at least ask for directions and understand the answer!

Point being, learning a language from a book alone sounds impossible. You really do have to use it for it to work.

Honestly I'm happy with my Fossil watches (regular watches not smart). Watch snobs may scoff but imo they're the best bang for your buck, they're well made and they look nice. Just like with headphones, the difference between $50 and $250 is huge, but the difference between $250 and $2500 isn't enough to justify the price for me. I've got 4 Fossils on sale over the past few years that look nice with various outfits, and a pair of sub-$300 Sennheiser HD569s that sound great d-_-b

One could argue that the buyer is only paying for the physical copy, the content is still free.

If someone needs to get in touch with me immediately, they can call me. Otherwise, I'll notice when I notice.

I made a cheesy stroganoff-esque macaroni casserole last night with lots of mushrooms and onions (caramelized nicely and deglazed with a splash of red wine) that went into a sour cream / dijon / cream cheese / mozzarella / pepper jack cheese sauce. With ground beef and bacon bits, jalapeno diced small, and more cheese and panko on top to crisp up. Filling as hell but it was really tasty. I've been really loving mushrooms lately.

Just seems like a really creepy fantasy horror thing to me, but yes it is pretty terrifying.

Yeah I feel e-bikes would be useless here in Toronto for at 3-4 months a year, and uncomfortable for another 1 or 2.

Same. I've been using iTunes since version 1 on OS 9.2, I'm super accustomed to it. My library isn't as big as yours but it's almost 20k. I still find it a breeze to use and organize my music, even though some of the design choices they've made since it became Music are a little annoying (wasted screen space and redundant controls while viewing playlists, mostly).

That's the big one for me, especially with music. I'm cheap, I have no data plan for my cell phone. I have internet at home, and wifi at work and on public transit if I need it (with a VPN of course). My music library at home is currently 19,347 songs I've been gathering since I was 14. I have whatever songs are in a playlist synced to my phone, about 3000 of em. Whenever I have no internet I can still listen to pretty much whatever I want. At home I also have about 200 of my favourite movies and a couple dozen TV series. Not to mention every NES, SNES, GameBoy, and GBA game and a bunch for N64, PS1 and PS2.

I live in Toronto and while it's been mostly fine for a while now, I've been burned too often in the past (obligatory f*ck Rogers, Bell and Telus). Plus I started my media collecting before the internet was fast enough for streaming to be an option ;)
