(That's not a hint for help, by the way. It's just me acknowledging that this type of thing obviously isn't for me.)

You may have heard of Internet riddles (such as notpron or OddPawn). These are basically digital scavenger hunts. There is usually a series of levels, and to progress, you have to find a password or the next URL. Each level contains a puzzle that can vary from a riddle, to looking at the source code, to researching a topic.
The problem is that a lot of these (such as notpron) tend to be absurdly long and difficult, making them pretty hard to get into. This is why I love 404 Riddles: it's just 20 levels, and none of them are super difficult. You can probably finish it in around a week if you dedicate some time to it.
Feel free to ask for hints, but due to the spoiler-heavy nature of this, maybe try to preface your comment with a big spoiler warning, or just PM me. Make sure you try for a bit before asking for help, the best part is when you finally find the solution :)
Kind of irrelevant but the website doesn't seem to use HTTPS at all, not even for the account creation page of the forums. If you're planning to sign up, I'd be extra cautious with what...

Good call. I don't entirely blame the site - it was made some time in 2007 I believe, and it looks like the creator's last forum post was in 2011. Unfortunately, this means that there probably...

Unfortunately, this means that there probably won't ever be an act 2.
Ugh, the first one told me I was "on the right track" but I wasn't remotely. When I figured out what the answer actually was, it was completely unrelated.

Man, I haven't done one of these in years. The intro problem had me stumped longer than I would like to admit. Now I'm stuck on 7 and can't quite figure it out :) Edit #1: Got it. Sneaky. Edit #2:...

Edit #2: Level 17 is painful. Seriously. This is so confusing.
That last one was particularly annoying; I found a 'not quite' answer before the actual answer. Unfortunately, the rank / counter thing on the end page is broken, so you can't know how many people...

On puzzle 13, wondering if I need to wait.
Yes, you do (this is probably my least favourite part). I can PM you what you get if it’s an inconvenience to wait.
Thanks for the offer, but I want to solve this properly.
Edit: I'm bad at crosswords

The name of the file is important, think geographically. This level doesn't need any especially technical stuff :)
image + conversation is the key
