Broke: David Lynch, director.
Woke: David Lynch, weatherman.
Update: No announcement given, and plenty of public denials directly from Lynch himself including the daily weather report.
Many at r/davidlynch are still grasping desperately at straws lol. I'm a bit disappointed at Variety and it makes me wonder what led them to believe it enough to choose to report it.
Lost Highway or Eraserhead this weekend to make up for my disappointment.
Here's to blue skies and golden sunshine.
Not to bring anyone's hopes up (again) but only 18 movies were announced for competition. So there's probably going to be some late additions to round it to 20-21 (Once Upon A Time in Hollywood was announced late). Whether that's Lynch or not who knows. Maybe he wanted it to be a surprise and due to Variety (and others) leaking it, it ruined it.
You think he might be doubling down and bluffing his way through? If so that would make the whole story much spicier.
Hope Springs Eternal :)
Yeah it’s almost a certainty at this point. Exciting stuff, Cannes is the kick off to a lot of awards stuff so we’ll see if Lynch can manage it.
Also big news is that Armageddon Time directed by James Grey (Two Lovers, Lost City of Z, Ad Astra) was supposed to be in competition here but has been pulled out. The film recently had a test screening that went poorly. So it not being here is actually cause for concern.
After the disappointment post Wisteria hysteria*, for Variety to publish a rumour of this magnitude gives me hope. I think they announce the full program on Thursday. Fingers crossed.
* There was apparently a (credible) Netflix project named Wisteria that was postponed due to the pandemic.
