Elvis is now the first mid-budget adult drama to gross 100 million at the domestic box office since Little Women crossed the threshold back in February 2020.
This is great news for both its above-the-line chances (specifically for Best Picture and Best Actor) and also the prospects of other awards contenders doing well at the box office later this year.
Some other awards contenders for comparison:
West Side Story: 38 million
House of Gucci: 53 million
Rocketman: 96 million
Little Women: 108 million
Ford vs Ferrari: 117 million
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: 142 million
The Great Gatsby: 144 million
There's a chance Elvis will outgross Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. So we'll see where it goes from here.
Also wanted to add, I saw this on Tuesday and liked it quite a bit. It’s the first Baz Luhrmann film I’ve ever liked.
Hope you have fun with it, I certainly did. I was in a theater with only 60+ retirees (because I went during the day) and everyone clapped at the end. Butler is amazing in the role honestly, I...

I think I'm going to see this tonight. I'm impressed with the numbers it's doing.

Yeah that's Baz Lhurmann's style. If you didn't mind it you could watch his Great Gatsby.
