I’ve had the first one in my collection for a few years now and just never got around to watching it until last week when all the hype about people fainting at screenings started to pop up in the media (which I think is total BS and just marketing hype).
It’s honestly not very good. It’s boring, repetitive and the gore isn’t nearly as extreme as the film’s reputation would suggest.
That said, the movie was made for $35,000 and looks fantastic. I was genuinely impressed with how good it looks and there were quite a few shots that made me think the director (Damien Leone) could make a much better movie with more resources. So even though I didn’t like the first one, I’m intrigued to check out the second one just to see what this guy can do with nearly 10x the budget.
