This feels... dated? I'm disappointed Guy Ritchie is making an American soldier vigilante film about Afghanistan with what seems like a perspective from, at latest, 2012. Did we completely fuck over the locals that worked with the US military during our exit (and honestly entire occupation)? Absolutely, that is great to call out. But it's such a US perspective framing of the Taliban and the whole conflict. Cut throat, unrepentant bad guys. It feels like it misses the forest through the trees.

I would have loved to see a "lock, stock, and two smoking barrels" or "snatch" version of this story. There are people in those films who are framed as the "baddies" but we get to see them as real people, even if some of them are comical caricatures. Guy Ritchie's genius comes from the characters and seeing the things that make them tick. I didn't see one in here that makes me feel anything about anyone. I know that's harsh criticism for a film I haven't seen, but unless the trailer really misrepresents the film it'll be a pass from me.

My guess is this can be chucked onto the pile of American military propaganda films like "American Sniper", "Zero Dark Thirty", "Lone Survivor", or "Shooter". Hoorah individualism, libertarianism, and military men. Boo to big government and enemies of the United States! (cue eagle screech)/s Honestly, I'm surprised they went with Jake Gyllenhaal instead of Marky Mark.

Man from UNCLE, and the Sherlock movies are pretty good too IMO. But yeah, Lock Stock and Snatch are exceptional, and hard acts to follow.

Completely agree, but I'd still love to see him attempt it with the translators as the main protagonists trying to avoid the Taliban in a fun tongue in cheek kind of way. Maybe something a la Four...
