I knew about storyboards and a lot of other things that go into pre-production but for some reason, I never heard about this before. Blows my minds how so much of the movie is more or less already made once shooting begins. The 3D is of course pretty simple, but this definitely explains the insane budgets of most newer blockbusters. Storyboards are probably still used, but this is way more in depth and much more involved in every part of the movie making process. Really fascinating I thought!
Since you enjoyed this, you may also enjoy learning about the virtual production workflow which also heavily employs previz work to plan out shots before they are recorded on an LED stage....

The major different being that a lot of work that would traditionally be done in post gets moved to preproduction, so that the high quality CGI can be displayed in the LED volume during the shoot. This is because quite often with an LED stage, what is captured in camera is the final image (save for some color correction). Although there are some more technically complex workflows that can capture the LED stage and a green screen backplate simultaneously so that the director has the green screen footage as a safety.

Super interesting. Previs was actually the first version of Jarvis.
Very cool! Is there a blog by the people who make this tool? Would love to dig into the technologies and programming used here
